“This is important support,” Carlos del Solar, head of Hunt Oil in Peru, told Reuters. “The financing is going to be for about $2bn and obviously this has to come from various sources.”

Located at Pampa Melchorita, the project’s LNG supply is scheduled to begin in 2010 under a sale and purchase agreement with Repsol YPF.

The single train plant, for which an engineering, procurement and construction contract has been awarded to Chicago Bridge and Iron, will have a production capacity of 4.45m tonnes per year.
