Starting with 1997, Daewoo-Mangalia Heavy Industries, a joint venturebetween worlwide well known shipbuilding leader Daewoo Shipbuilding& Marine Engineering in Korea and "2 Mai" Mangalia Shipyard inRomania has been one of the most competitive shipbilding, conversion& repair shipyard in the Black Sea area.
Since its inception, Daewoo-Mangalia Heavy Industries has had a uniquepotential in the field of shipbuilding, conversion & repairbusiness, due to its favorable geographical location, best facilities,advanced Daewoo technology, large investment program and highlyqualified Romanian and Korean experts.
The valuable image of DMHI was realized during these years only throughcontinuous improving in productivity as well as quality standards.Thus, in a relatively short period, the company managed to obtain theCertificate of Approval for the quality standard ISO 9001:2000 andimproved its productivity more than four times, as compared to 1997.
After developing suitable business programs our company has anannual construction capacity by 6 Panamax by 75 k dwt/year and repaircapacity 40 vessels/year.
The shipbuilding activity will befocused mainly on handysize, up to panamax bulkers and containervessels 1000 ~ 2500 TEU, as the basis of new building activities.
Complementing harmoniously the new building side,all kind of repair and high tech conversions are also part of ourcurrent business. This is supported by MARAV certificate which wasobtain in 2000. Facing themost exacting request of our customers in engineering, design andproduction, Daewoo Mangalia Heavy Industries aims not to satisfy butnot delight them.
Thus, the company continues to enhance its technological capabilitiesand to expand the equipment in order to improve productivity, qualityand reliable services to our orldwidecustomers.
Presently, the new vessels are built under supervision andwe work closely with Det Norske Veritas, Lloyds Register, GermanisherLloyd, American Bureau of Shipping and Bureau Veritas.
DMHI is located in Romania, on route from Black Sea, south of Mangalia(43°49’ latitude & 28°34’ longitude), 45 km south ofConstanta-Agigea Harbor and 2 km of Mangalia Harbor and 400 Km distancefrom Bosfor Pass. This shipyard, through its ideal location to theBlack sea opening into Mediteranean Sea, is blessed with a mild climateproviding the best conditions for newbuilding and shiprepair activity.
