Umoe Mandalis located on Norway’s most southern tip, in the town of Mandal. Inthis region naval shipbuilding has taken place since 1946, startingwith the rebuilding the Norwegian Navy’s fleet of Fast Patrol Boatsafter World War II. The company is since 2000 a member of the UmoeGroup (www.umoe.no).

In 1989 Umoe Mandal (Former Kværner Mandal)was awarded the contract for building 9 Surface effect Ship (SES) MineCountermeasures Vessels (MCMVs) in Glass fibre Reinforced Polyester(GRP) sandwich for the Royal Norwegian Navy. The company was awarded i1997 the contract for the prototype of the advanced Fast Attack CraftHNoMS Skjold based on the same building materials and the same SESconcept. Following the successful prototype Umoe Mandal, together withits Partners Armaris and Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, was inNovember 2003 awarded the contract of another 5 Fast Attack Crafts ofthe Skjold class. The work includes integration and delivery of weaponsystems for the complete series of 6 vessels.

The innovative naval ship building programshave generated important spin offs into several advanced compositecomponents and products. Umoe Mandal has combined its R&D effortswith practical and operational experince with composite materials anddeveloped advanced production methods for military and civilianapplications. Umoe Mandal is today a highly specialised companyapplying state of the art production methods and processes such asvacuum infusion and Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM).
