Shtokman project is promoted by Russian state-owned gas major Gazprom and it requires seven to nine 177,000-cbm ice-class LNG carriers by 2014 for the first phase of the project.

Hanjin official said it is now mulling participating in the project by partnering with EPIC.

The South Korean shipbuilder is aiming to win orders for the construction of floating production units (FPU) from Shtokman project by forming a consortium with the world's leading engineering firm.

Hanjin is also conducting marketing activities for other offshore plant projects. It plans to invite global oil majors and engineering firms to its Subic Shipyard in the Philippines to demonstrate its capability in the offshore plant sector.

Meanwhile, the shipbuilder is not considering joining Brazil's Petrobras' offshore plant newbuilding project as it judges there is no guarantee that it can make profits by constructing a shipyard in Brazil and building vessels there.

In the mean time, an official from Hanjin said that the recent foreign media report that it has delayed the delivery of eight 12,800-teu containerships is not true.
