The row between Japan and China nofollowing Japan’s detention of a fishing trawler in disputed waters has deepened, with China scrapping a senior legislator's planned Japan visit this week.

Li Jianguo, vice chairman of China's Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, has delayed the five-day visit, Kyodo News agency said, citing Japanese officials.

The Chinese embassy cited "various reasons" for cancelling the trip.
