A tuna purse seiner from a company owned by the former president of the Ecuadorian National Fisheries Chamber, Cesar Rohon, sank on May 9, 13.6 kilometres from the Port of Posorja in Ecuador.

The crewmembers jumped from the sinking 35-metre vessel while it was still at anchor. Four crewmembers, including the captain and skipper, drowned, and their bodies were recovered soon after the incident, while the bodies of another four fishermen were recovered the next day.

The cause for the incident is still being investigated.
