RIO GRANDE, 25 January – THE port of Rio Grande, in the far south of Brazil has opened up a full inquiry into the alleged leaking of oil from a Hamburg Sud vessel, earlier this week.

The German flagged ship was berthing at the Tecon Rio Grande container terminal when it hit the quay wall in rough weather and an estimated 1,000 litres of oil escaped from its tanks. The ship is called the Monte Sarmiento. Two companies were hired by the terminal to clean up the oil slick. The Port Captain has promised a full report on the incident nofollowing an investigation.
