Rapp Hydema has closed a major contract with STX Finland Oy Shipyard related to a new research vessel. The Namibian Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources selected STX Finland Oy to build new hull, No. 1378, which will undertake fishery survey missions.

On the electric winch side, Rapp is supplying a CTD winch that handles up to 6000 meters of armor-coated cable. An electric Plankton/net winch, with a wire-holding capacity of 3000 meters of EM cable, will also be provided. An aft A-frame and CTD Launching arrangement will be delivered from Triplex in close cooperation with Rapp. Rapp’s PTS Pentagon R7E model is to be employed as the control system for the electric winches.“We are grateful to have a solid working relationship with STX Finland Oy, with whom we are already working on the South African Polar Research Vessel,” notes Rapp AS Tore Torrissen, referring to Rapp’s award of the South African vessel package early 2010. “This is our first contract with the Namibian Ministry of Fisheries, so we are honored by the vote of confidence in Rapp’s equipment,” he adds.
