Sembcorp profit soars

sembcorbStrong rig-building activity and reduced foreign exchange losses led to an “exceptional” rise in full-year profit at Singapore’s Sembcorp Marine.

The builder and repairer posted its highest ever profit in the fourth quarter which led to the “record performance” for the year to the end of December.

 

Break offshore bottleneck: China

With China’s energy consumption rising, the dependence on foreign trade is increasing as well. More potential is emerging in China’s offshore plant market.

   

CIMC strives for offshore leadership

On February 2nd, China’s International Marine Containers (Group) Ltd (CIMC) announced they had reached an agreement with Russia’s MNP Group, to merge U.S.A’s Friede Goldman United (F&G) by 75% shares valued at $75m.

F&G is one of the leading offshore plant enterprises in the world, with 60 years experience in offshore platform design and building, especially in mobile drill platform. So far F&G has involved in the design and building of over 100 offshore platforms.

   

Transocean to tender for drillships

TransoceanTransocean, owner of the world’s largest fleet of offshore drilling rigs and drillships, could award contracts to build two new drillships, worth $1.5bn in total, this quarter to meet growing demand for deepwater and Arctic operations, foreign media reports.

The New York-listed company is working with US oil major ExxonMobil on designing a $1bn drillship that will be able to operate in the most harsh and cold environments.

   

Apache Reports Fire on GOM Platform

Apache Corporation (NYSE:APA) reported a fire aboard its East Cameron (EC) 2 processing platform, in La. state waters of the Gulf of Mexico about two miles off the coast of Cameron Parish.

The three personnel on the platform, all Island Operating employees, evacuated the platform and were rescued. They were all transferred to the hospital where Frank Richard, 34, of Mowata, La., died. The other two employees are being assessed. Island Operating provides contract operating services for Apache and other companies in the Gulf.

   

Jinhui delivers 60-m long PSV

JinhuiOn January 7th, a 60-meter long platform supply vessel (PSV) built by Jinhui Shipyard (金辉船厂) was delivered to a Saudi Arabian shipowner successfully.

The ship was classed by ABS and is suitable for unrestricted navigation area.

   

Posco promotes offshore business

  Mr Jung Jun-yang, chairman of South Korea’s largest steel maker Posco, said in his new-year message that the company will strengthen its offshore plant business.

Regarding his remark, industry pundits guess Mr Jung is considering the acquisition of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering which builds world class offshore plants.

   

Hornbeck Offshore Largest Supply Vessel

Hornbeck Offshore Services, Inc. (NYSE:HOS) has introduced the HOS Centerline, a Jones Act qualified, 370-ft multi-purpose support vessel (MPSV) to its fleet. This HOS 370 design, with an 8,000+ deadweight-ton capacity represents the largest and most diverse DP-2 classed offshore supply vessel available today.

The HOS Centerline is the only vessel in the world to have received certifications by the United States Coast Guard allowing operations as a supply vessel, industrial/construction vessel and as a petroleum and chemical tanker.

   

GMMOS acquires offshore vessels

The parent of Stanford Marine has taken over Minnow Marine Projects and its fleet of 10 offshore vessel newbuildings. Dubai-based GMMOS Group said Wednesday that it acquired the entire share capital the offshore vessel outfit through its Stanford Asia subsidiary.
   

Gjøa Gets its Sea Legs

During the last few days the deck and hull of the Gjøa platform have been mated together in the fjord outside the Norwegian town of Stord. There were exacting requirements for precision and weather conditions during the operation, which was a success.

 

   

Salazar Announces Renewable Energy Office

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced that the Minerals Management Service (MMS) will establish a new regional office in 2010 to support renewable energy development on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) off the Atlantic seaboard.
