Break offshore bottleneck: China

China_copyAccording to industry statistics, the exploration rate of China’s ocean petroleum is just 12% while that of ocean natural gas is lower, namely 10%.

With China’s energy consumption rising, the dependence on foreign trade is increasing as well. More potential is emerging in China’s offshore plant market.

In recent years, Chinese shipbuilders such as COSCO Shipyard, took a series of huge orders. China has already been at high way of offshore plants building, especially in batch production of jack up drilling platforms.

China has occupied nearly half of global ocean auxiliary ship market, ranking 1st in the world. But in the hi-tech offshore plant filed such as design, exploration and key parts, the country is still a rookie depending on import.

The statistics showed that about 70% offshore plant equipments of China relied on import every year. So, obviously the technology is the bottleneck of China’s offshore facility building industry.

In future, China will focus on the research of hi-tech field, especially in transmission system, safe system, DP system, and deep diving equipments.
