Northrop Grumman Ship Systems, Pascagoula, Miss., is being awarded a $1,402,539,861 modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-06-C-2304) for DDG 1000 Zumwalt Class Destroyer construction and Class Services.

The mission of the DDG 1000 Zumwalt Class of Destroyers is to provide affordable and credible independent forward presence/deterrence and to operate as an integral part of the Naval, Joint, or Combined Maritime Forces. The effort includes construction of the DDG 1001 Zumwalt Class Destroyer and construction of the DDG 1000 Superstructure and Hangar under a work share agreement with Bath Iron Works. Work will be performed in Pascagoula, Miss., (34 percent); Gulfport, Miss., (12 percent); Pittsburgh, Pa., (7 percent); Burns Harbor, Ind., (4 percent); McLean, Va. (4 percent); Walpole, Mass. (1 percent); Seattle, Wash. (1 percent) and various other locations (37 percent), and work is expected to be completed by Jul. 2014.
