Glovis Co., a logistics company under the Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group of South Korea, appears to be planning to order pure car / truck carrier (PCTC) newbuildings.
According to local media, the company plans to place an order for two to three ships with a domestic shipyard during the latter half of this year.
Glovis purchased three secondhand 4,000-6,000-unit PCTCs in 2008 from EUKOR Car Carriers to make its entry into the shipping sector, but this will mark its first newbuilding order.
Glovis intends to transport 20% of Hyundai-Kia group's export cars, and aims to increase that number to more than 50% by 2015.
This prompted the company to newly establish a section dedicated to transporting cars by ships during the first half of the year.
