Efficient waste handling onboard
STOCKHOLM, November 2012: Tighter regulations for the prevention of pollution by garbage from ships are due to come into force on January 1, 2013. Almost all discharges of dry waste into the sea will be prohibited and the rules relating to discharge of food and galley waste will be more stringent.
HHI World's 1st DF Engine
Hyundai Heavy Industries has developed a world's first dual fuel engine package for ships. The Korean company announced today that it gave a demonstration of large-size dual fuel engine, medium-size dual-fuel HiMSEN, dual-fuel engine package linked with Hi-GAS, LNG fuel supply system.
MHI fuel-saving propellers
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) introduced a high performance propeller that can improve the propeller efficiency of containerships by 5 percent. The Japanese company said this yields a potential annual savings in fuel costs of up to $1m.
